High-density ceramics obtained by andesite basalt sintering

نویسندگان

چکیده

In the present study, andesite basalt originated from deposit site ?Donje Jarinje?, Serbia, was examined as a potential raw material for high-density ceramics production. The production of included dry milling, homogenization, cold isostatic pressing and sintering in air. To determine optimal processing parameters conducted at 1040, 1050, 1060, 1070 1080?C, afterwards duration varied 30 to 240min temperature 1060?C. Characterization starting sintered materials estimation particle size distribution, density, hardness fracture toughness complemented with X-ray diffraction, optical light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis. Phase transformations did not occur during investigated range 1040 1080?C. obtained research results showed that 99.5% relative density highest values 6.7GPa 2.2MPa?m1/2, respectively, were achieved 1060?C 60min study confirmed can be used ceramic various industrial applications.

Sintering of Ceramics

Sintering with low frequency rf power (-50 M H z ) is a new technique with unique capabilities that has been used to sinter a variety of ceramic materials, including zirconia-toughened alumina, alumina, silicon carbide, and boron carbide. Processing with low frequencies offers many advantages compared to processing with conventional microwave frequencies (915 MHz and 2.45 GHz). Because of the l...

Basalt versus Andesite in the Martian Crust : New Geochemical Perspectives

Introduction: Data from the MGS Thermal Emission Spectrometer (TES) has shown that surface type 1 (ST1) materials, interpreted as basalt, dominate the ancient crust in the southern highlands of Mars [1]. Large expanses of surface type 2 (ST2) materials in the northern lowlands have been variously interpreted as andesite [1, 2], oxidized crystalline basalt [3], or partly weathered basalt [4]. Th...

Direct Laser Sintering of Ceramics

For more than one decade layer manufacturing technologies assist the development of new products. Due to a layer-wise build-up of a three-dimensional geometry, nearly every complex design is producible in a short period of time. Selective Laser Sintering is a powderbased technique to produce plastic prototypes (Rapid Prototyping) or metal mould inserts (Rapid Tooling). The laser sintering of ce...

Microwave Sintering of Thermistor Ceramics

Microwave sintering is a new sintering technology developed in the middle to late period of the 1980’s, which is characterized by fast densification for ceramic materials[1]. In recent years, microwave heating has been well employed in the field of sintering and joining of ceramics as a result of its advantages against conventional methods. These ceramic materials include oxides, mixed oxides, ...
